Neither of them had planned for the annual staff Christmas party to be held in his house, but there they had it, a house full of doctors, nurses, hell there were rumours that the boss was coming, nobody knew whether said rumour was true or not, Kureha was a very… awkward human being.
Her son was there though, a lovely young boy named Anthony, currently training to be a doctor himself, Law saw so much promise in that kid, 17 and his test scores were immaculate.
But that wasn’t the actual problem, and neither was the fact that Bepo seemed all too happy with the constant attention the tiny snowball of a puppy was receiving. It was the fact that his colleagues had meticulously spread Mistletoe everywhere without telling him, and had apparently been attempting to get him stuck under it with his semi-permanent house guest all night.
How did he know this? Well he’d passed this same door way without noticing that little sprig of green quite a few times that night, sometimes even with someone, however nobody had said anything until Monet had crossed the doorway with him, and as if on cue…
< Oh Law, Monet~ Look up~! >
He was almost scared to do so, he knew what those words meant, those fuckers.
This wouldn’t be the first time they’d attempted something like this, trying to hint that he should do something, should make a move on the greenette, teasing him about his possible reasons for allowing her to stay, none of which were true of course. Although she was absolutely stunning, and he’d unflinchingly agree to that fact, he had no ulterior motives towards her. She’d been through enough.
But… he couldn’t honestly say he hadn’t thought about it. “You don’t have too“ he murmured, sure it was tradition and they’d never stop ragging on him for ‘letting the chance get away’ but she was as red as a tomato and he didnt want to make this awkward for her.
<N-no… it’s okay, it’s just one kiss right? >
Well he genuinely couldn’t say his stomach didnt flip at that acceptance. “I’m taking it all down after this” He promised, taking her acceptance as a cue to lean in, voice low so only she could hear his promise to spoil their fun. Hand reaching to cup her jaw, just one kiss… one innocent little kiss, it wouldn’t do any harm. It couldn’t.
It honestly felt like an eternity before he pulled away, when really it was nothing more than a few seconds, a few seconds in which he found out how soft her skin was, how gentle her touch was.
A few seconds in which everything changed. Sweet Oda he was going to kill those two for this.
It was undeniable the fact that after the accident she had become a shy woman. It was especially obvious when she went to the gym and purposely chose the hours in which there would be less people, or in events like the one Law was hosting that night in his house.
She didn’t like to be shy, but there was nothing she could do about it. After all what happened, her accident and knowing how easily things could change was enough to make someone insecure.
Monet gladly helped with the even that night, cooking appetizers, desserts and two main courses. Veal or salmon, whichever people preferred. Law’s kitchen had never been used that much nor seen so many different meals. and all of the things she cooked were things Law could eat, without yeast.
The mistletoe had definitely caught her off guard, but even if she got red and her mind begun to warn her about the terrible possibles outcomes of it she agreed, ignoring the voice that told her that she was going to get even redder or that other one that said ‘what if this leads to other things’?. She made them all shut up, pressing gently her lips against his as she told herself that it was just a kiss.
But it honestly didn’t feel like just a kiss. Maybe it was because everyone was looking and they started applauding for Monet’s utter embarassment. Or maybe she simply had been a long time without kissing anyone. Or maybe both.
She parted lips after a few seconds that felt eternal. There was a bright blush on her cheeks, and she lowered her gaze, unable to look at anything that wasn’t the floor.
— ❝ I have to check the veal–.❞
She said, disappearing into the kitchen as Law’s friends continued applauding. How embarassing.
