Yes, just a kiss, that’s all it was, and that was all it would ever be. It was all it ever could be, no matter what his friends, or the press, or the general public seemed to think.

She was his patient, and nothing more.

In all honesty the knowledge that the press had gotten their hands on the story had infuriated him, it completely disregarded Doctor/Patient confidentiality, she had rights to privacy, and that’s what he’d been attempting to give her by letting her stay with him, a bit of comfortable privacy, as he’d rarely be there.

But no, some asshole had sold the story to the news papers, to the local press, he’d thought of suing them at one point, but Kureha had stopped him, telling him to let them have their fun it couldn’t harm anyone.

But it could, Law knew anything could hurt someone who was already fragile, and while Monet was a fully grown fully functioning young woman, she was fragile

At least the woman whom had sold the story had long since been fired

Of course… I’m sure they’ll let it die now they’ve had their fun.“ As long as she was okay, that was all that mattered here ”Would you like some help?“ they both knew he couldn’t cook, he could burn salad, and he had -accidentally- but he could help move things around, help her prepare things after they’d been cooked.

She’d done so much for the night already.

Monet hoped they would let it die, but something, call it a sixth sense or whatever, told her it wouldn’t be that way. The veal smelled delicious and she double checked it had been cooked to perfection. The ghost of a smile settled on her lips when she saw that it was perfect. It was strange and dumb how much something as simple as that , cooking, could make her smile.

She had fallen down more times than she could count, especially with the accident. After it she had been barely holding on, feeling alone not only because her husband abandoned her, but also because, asides of Law and now Bepo, she was alone, and she felt useless.

But cooking always remembered her that there was always a chance to get something right and to make someone happy, even if it was just by making a casserole.

— ❝ Can you serve the veal? I’ll prepare the salmon meanwhile.❞

Monet turned to give him the mitts to take the tray without burning himself and she crashed against Law’s chest. Sweet lord, she didn’t know he was that close. For two seconds, that seemed to last an eternity, she just stared into his eyes.

That wasn’t helping to make it less weird, and definitely Penguin shouting ‘we are hungry you can resume kissing later’ didn’t help. Thankfully Bepo entered in the kitchen, barking happily and she turned her attention to him.

— ❝ Are you are hungry too?❞

She smiled at the white and tiny fluff ball. She even managed to laugh a bit, but Bepo was just too adorable. She offered the mitts to Law, without looking at him. For some reason she knew that she would blush and/or avoid eye contact if she looked at him at that moment.
